About Us

At Northerm we specialize in manufacturing, installing, and servicing doors, windows, and related products for residential, commercial, public, and industrial buildings. Our products are designed for the north’s climate, with superior insulating qualities and the resilience needed to withstand the hours of sun, wind, snow buildings here sustain.

We’ve been doing this since 1983, and figure we have manufactured well over 200,000 windows since then.

And we do it with style. Collaborating with our clients we designed the glass for the unique The Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, overhead glass doors at Whistle Bend School that allow classrooms to be opened to the common area of the building, and the glass for the mental health addition at Whitehorse General Hospital.

Come check out our showroom if you’d like to see more for yourself.

First Nations owned

We are 100% Yukon First Nations owned. Dakwakada Capital Investment and Kluane Dana Shaw LP are our largest shareholders and represented on our board. Our other shareholders include Da Daghay Development Corporation, Chu Niikwan LP, Carmacks Development Corporation, NaCho Nyak Dun Development Corporation, and Copper Nissuu LP.

Northerm is a Whitehorse window and door manufacturing company that was started in 1983 by brothers Rob, David, and Stan Borud.

Our relationship with Capital Glass and Bud’s

We are part of the RAB Energy Group, along with Capital Glass. Our sister company Capital Glass does similar work out of Anchorage, Alaska. Bud’s Industrial Installations (Garage Doors) was acquired by Northerm in 2021 and is now our Overhead Door division.. Adding garage doors to our offerings allows us to offer even more options for residential, public, and corporate clients in the north.

Our logo

When local Indigenous artist Blake Shaa’koon Lepine set out to redevelop Northerm's logo he integrated several traditions of the Yukon First Nations that own the company with Northerm’s work - bringing light and warmth into Yukon homes and businesses through windows and doors designed for our unique climate. The Raven (or Crow) appears twice within a puzzle of elements contained in the new logo. In the first instance Raven/Crow becomes the compass facing north, representing its role in local traditions as creator of the world, the bringer of light and understanding. In the second appearance below, Raven/Crow balances a human figure to represent the ancestors watching from beyond and still present in all that we do. The Sun sits beside Raven/Crow and looks towards the compass, representing the people of Northerm, those who have built the company and continue to uphold it, and their reach upwards towards the light.

We are grateful to Blake for this thoughtful interpretation of our logo, and proud to present it as our identity in the world.
